The Junkman offers two-week residencies in which he and the participants will design, construct and learn to perform-on a Junk Music Playstationn. A Junk Music Playstation is a sound sculpture made exclusively from recycled materials.

In the Spring of 2007, The Junkman did a special 1-week residency at Lamoille Union High School in Hyde Park, Vermont. The residency was special because students in the high school's had been working to implement The Junkman's HOP (Help Our Planet) program. Students at LUHS constructed a Junk Music Playstation and learned about music and environmental citizenship. Students at the high school level are able to actively participate in all aspects of conceiving, designing, building, and performing on a Playstation and gain valuable experience working as a group to see the project from beginning to end.

In Spring 2006, students at nearby Cambridge Elementary School in Cambridge, VT also got to learn about music and construct a Junk Music Playstation. Students at this level learn the basics of music and rhythm, are shown ways to be more environmentally-conscious using the HOP program and are introduced to the basics of building and using tools in contructing the Playstation.
